H&M Environment

At H&M distribution we are continuing to look to advance and improve as a team and as a company.

Developing to meet the needs of present generations, without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs”

The below points are just some of the ways in which we are continually pushing forward and outlining our current environmental and sustainability advancements.

  • We operate Super-Efficient Euro 6 engines, the cleanest ever due to minimal C02 and NOx output.
  • Our double-deck trailers contribute towards Green House Gas (GHG) reduction, for which freight transportation accounts for 20% of all UK and EU emissions.
  • Our dedicated Safe and Fuel Efficient Driving (SAFED) Training encourages economic driving, resulting in a reduction of fuel use and GHGs.
  • Our load fill and route optimisation arrangements reduce fuel consumption and the emission of harmful gases and particulates.
  • We have multiple electric company cars in use, with dedicated EV charging pods to follow soon.
  • Car sharing for site visits is strongly encouraged amongst our staff, as is multiple site visits in one journey rather than increased mileage for single return trips.
  • Our electrical supply is from 75% renewable and 25% nuclear, so there no energy derived from fossil fuels.
  • Large Solar Panels at our Warrington site also contribute to providing more clean and renewable energy.
  • Our large warehouse buildings are unheated, avoiding pollution via Green House Gases (GHG) emissions.
  • Use of energy-efficient lighting, double glazing, blinds, and staff strongly encouraged to switch off unused equipment all contribute to reducing CO2 emissions.
  • Two out of our three sites do not use gas, so no requirement for this non-renewable energy source, resulting in the avoidance of air pollution, acid rain, and ozone layer depletion.
  • We segregate our bulk wood and plastic waste for recycling, rather than going to landfill.
  • We use second-hand pallets for slaving, reducing the demand for virgin materials.
  • Where possible, we upcycle existing site-based materials/items for improvement work.
